GENERAL ARTICLE

ARTICLE 370

On 5 August 2019, Union Home Minister Amit shah moved a historic resolution in Rajya Sabha to scrap Article 370 of the constitution giving special autonomous status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Clause 7 of the Instrument of Accession signed by Maharaja Hari Singh declared that the State could not be compelled to accept any future Constitution of India. The State was within its rights to draft its own Constitution and to decide for itself what additional powers to extend to the Central Government. Article 370 was designed to protect those rights.
Article 370 embodied six special provisions for Jammu and Kashmir:

1. It exempted the State from the complete applicability of the Constitution of India. The State was allowed to have its own Constitution.

2. Central legislative powers over the State were limited, at the time of the framing, to the three subjects of defense, foreign affairs, and communications.

3. Other constitutional powers of the Central Government could be extended to the State only with the concurrence of the State Government.

4. The 'concurrence' was only provisional. It had to be ratified by the State's Constituent Assembly.

5. The State Government's authority to give 'concurrence' lasted only until the State Constituent Assembly was convened. Once the State Constituent Assembly finalized the scheme of powers and dispersed, no further extension of powers was possible.

6. Article 370 could be abrogated or amended only upon the recommendation of the State's Constituent Assembly.

THE DAY OF POWER

The Independence Day of India, which is celebrated religiously throughout the Country on the 15th of August every year, holds tremendous ground in the list of national days, since it reminds every Indian about the dawn of a new beginning, the beginning of an era of deliverance from the clutches of British colonialism of more than 200 years. It was on 15th August 1947 that India was declared independent from British colonialism, and the reins of control were handed over to the leaders of the Country. India's gaining of independence was a tryst with destiny, as the struggle for freedom was a long and tiresome one, witnessing the sacrifices of many freedom fighters, who laid down their lives on the line.
This year, our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi hoisted the Indian tricolor at the Red Fort and delivered a speech to the nation. The Prime Minister extended greetings for the festival of Raksha Bandhan and also expressed his concern for the people in flood-affected areas of the country.“India does not want incremental progress. A high jump is needed, our thought process has to be expanded. We have to keep in mind global best practices and build good systems,” Modi said. He emphasized on Made In India products and digital banking. India will soon be having Chief of Defence Staff. Steps to eliminate single-use plastic will be taken from 2nd October. After delivering his speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh, and Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa at the Red Fort. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met children at the Red Fort on the occasion of 73rd Independence Day. For the first time, in J&K Indian flag was hoisted on 73rd Independence Day of India.

2.Boo! It's a ghost ... word Have you ever heard of the term ghost word? It doesn't have a direct connection to Halloween although that's a good guess. A ghost word is a word that "has come into existence by error rather than by normal linguistic transmission, as through the mistaken reading of a manuscript, a scribal error, or a misprint." And, we've collected our favourite ghost words that scare us daily.....

3.World's Only Floating Post Office India is not only known for the largest number of post offices in the world, but it has its very own floating post office on Dal Lake in Srinagar. Perched on a houseboat, it also includes a philately museum within itself. Quite an unusual fact about India, isn't it?

4.The Temple of Rats -  It happens only in India! The Karni Mata Temple in Rajasthan is home to thousands of rats whom pilgrims consider to be their ancestors and worship, making it one of the strangest attractions of India and also one of the strangest facts about India as well!!

5.The word robot comes from the Czech “robota." In English, robota translates to "forced labour." We just hope they never discover that to be the case as we're fairly sure that's when the robot uprising will begin.

ANSWERS OF LAST WEEK

1.The answer is c) Rs. 10, Rs. 16

Total cost of 10 books = Rs. 120
Total cost of 8 books = Rs. 94
⇒⇒ The cost of 2 books = Rs. 26
Let the price of each book be xx and yy.
⇒ x + y = 26 ---------------- (1)
Given that the price of 1 book is 60%60%more than the other price
160y100+y=26160y100+y=26
y=26×100260y=26×100260
y=10y=10
Substituting Y=10Y=10 in (1) we get,
x+10=26x+10=26
xx = 16

2.The answer is c) 3

Let the three numbers be x,yx,y, and zz. We are given that
x+y2=2x+y2=2
y+z2=3y+z2=3
x+z2=4x+z2=4
Summing the three equations yields
x+y2+y+z2+x+z2=2+3+4x+y2+y+z2+x+z2=2+3+4
x+y+z=9x+y+z=9
The average of the three numbers is
=x+y+z3=x+y+z3
=93=3

3. The answer is b) 9

Basic Formula: 1,2,3...n1,2,3...n
If nn is odd, the formula is (n+12)th(n+12)thterm
The five multiples of 3 is 3,6,9,12,153,6,9,12,15
(n+12)⇒(5+12)th(n+12)⇒(5+12)th term
⇒(62)th⇒(62)th term = 3rd3rd term
Here 3rd3rd  term is 9

4. The answer is c) 37.25 kg

Total weight of (36+44=80)(36+44=80)Students =(36×40+44×35)=(36×40+44×35) kg = 2980 kg
Therefore average weight of the whole class =(298080)=(298080) kg
Therefore average weight = 37.25kg

5. The answer is b) 29.68

Total sum of 48 numbers =(50×30)−(35+40)=(50×30)−(35+40)
=1500−75=1500−75
=1425=1425
Average =(142548)=(142548)
= 29.68
