CORONA:

COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus.  The World Health Organization declared the outbreak to be a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30 January 2020, and recognised it as a pandemic on 11 March 2020. It has affected about 210 countries and territories around the world. As of 23 April 2020, more than 2.66 million cases of COVID-19 have been reported around the world, resulting in more than 185,500 deaths and more than 730,855 people have recovered. Advanced economies like the U.S. are hardly immune to these effects. As of now, US has 8,55,435 confirmed cases and with a huge death of 47,992. The number of the coronavirus cases in India crossed 21,700, while over 688 people have died and about 4353 have recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The hard work of healthcare and cleaning workers during this pandemic is undeniable. They are risking their lives to save their neighbours, family members and all the other citizens living in their respective country. A data shows that the health officials are at higher risk of catching Corona virus since they are the ones who are dealing with Corona patients. In TamilNadu, some people did not allow cleaning workers to bury a doctor who died of Corona Virus. Instead they pelted stones at them. These kind of issues shows that these people are drowned by fake news. Health officials stated that Corona can’t be able to spread from dead body because the dead person can’t breathe, cough. So these kind of mindsets of some people should be changed because these workers are risking their lives to save us. They should be given proper PPE(personal protective equipment) which helps them to avoid catching of Corona. We must salute these heroes (health and Cleaning workers) for their work. We can help these people by staying at home.

Gene Deitch - The man behind everyone's childhood

Gene, whose full name was Eugene Merrill Deitch(August 8,1924 - April 16,2020)was best known for creating animated cartoons such as Munro, Tom Terrific, Nudnik, as well as Popeye. Born in 1924, Deitch had initially trained as a pilot, but went to work as an illustrator for magazines before eventually turning towards animation. Working from behind the Iron Curtain, he directed 13 episodes of 'Tom and Jerry' and also some of the 'Popeye the Sailor' series. He won an Oscar in 1961 for 'Munro', a nine-minute long Czechoslovak-American comedy. He was also nominated for the same award twice in 1964 for 'Here's Nudnik' and 'How to Avoid Friendship’. He is also critically acclaimed for directing the animated 1966 feature film ‘Alice of Wonderland In Paris’. In 2003, the popular illustrator was conferred with the Winsor McCay Award for his lifelong contribution to animation. He passed away at the age of 95 and it is not due to Corona.

National Panchayati Raj day is celebrated by the ministry of panchayti Raj every year on April 24. The Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh first declared the Panchayati Raj in 2010.

April 25 –world malaria day

World malaria day is observed by the member states of UN. This day was established in May 2007 during the 60^th session of World health assembly.This day is celebrated to prevent and reduce the malaria around the world. Many organizations create awareness about malaria on this day.

April 26 – world intellectual property day

                 World intellectual property day is observed annually on April 26.  This day is celebrated to create awareness on the impact of  parents, trademarks, copyright and design. This day was established by the world intellectual property organization in 2000.

April 27 –world veterinary day

                  World veterinary day is established in 2000 by the world veterinary association. Thelast year theme was the value of vaccination. This is an initiative to reward the contribution of the veterinary profession.

April 28 –world day for safety and health at work

World day for safety and health at work is observed on April 28 throughout the world. This day aims to prevent the occupational accidents and diseases. This day ensures the safety and healthy work environment.

April 29 – International dance day

International dance day is created by International Theatre Institute to celebrate dance (ITI). ITI is the partner of UNESCO in performing arts. April 29 is the birth anniversary of  Jean-Georges Noverre ,the creator of modern ballet. This day is observed by all the member states of the UN.

April 30 – International Jazz day

International Jazz day is established in 2011 by the United Nations educational, scientific and cultural organization. Herbie Hancock , jazz pianist and the goodwill ambassador of  UNESCO gave the idea of celebrating this day. This day is celebrated to promote peace through jazz music.
