THE ACCET TIMES:
THE INDIAN HISTORY
The Revolt of 1857:
Indian Mutiny, also called Sepoy
Mutiny or First War of Independence, widespread but unsuccessful
rebellion against British rule in India in 1857–59.The sepoys of India who were
oppressed by the British for a long time revolted. Begun in Meerut by
Indian troops in the service of the British East India Company, it spread
to Delhi, Agra, Kanpur, and Lucknow. The mutiny broke out in
the Bengal army because it was only in the military sphere that
Indians were organized. There were political and economical factors which stood
as a reason for the revolt. But the one reason for which the revolt overtook
suddenly was the introduction of the new Enfield Rifle. To load it, the
sepoys had to bite off the ends of lubricated cartridges. A rumour spread among
the sepoys that the grease used to lubricate the cartridges was a mixture of
pigs’ and cows’ lard. Thus, to have oral contact with it was an insult to both
Muslims and Hindus. The first initiative was taken by sepoy Mangal Pandey. He
had shot a British general. The British had ordered to arrest Mangal Pandey but
the Indian sepoys did not follow his instructions. Under the leadership of
Mangal Pandey on 29 March 1857 the Indian sepoys marched to Delhi and made the Nawab
of Delhi the emperor of India. But the British succeeded. The failure was due
to lack of leadership, inferior military equipment and the modern intelligent
Indians also didn't support the cause. This revolt was important because it was
the first time India fought for Independence, pictured their disappointments to
British and only Indian soldiers were involved!
LAW
Before
knowing about these laws, amendments, acts and bills. We should know about the
constitution, which comprises these laws.
So
what is a constitution?
A
constitution is the document which outlines the laws and principles by which a
country is governed. Okay! Then, why we need a constitution?
For a living, set of principles is
essential in order to maintain a fundamental nature of the society. So, a
framework is required and that is the constitution.
Our Indian Constitution is the world's
longest one with 444 articles in 22 parts. Can you image this vast constitution
is drafted in 3 years (to be precise 2 years 11 months and 17 days). Also the
constitution of 60 countries are considered.
The idea of the constitution was first put forth by M.N Roy, a pioneer of the communist movement in India in 1934. Later
C. Rajagopalachari raised voice for a constituent assembly in 1939 and it was accepted by the British in 1940. For the first time the Constituent Assembly met on 9 December 1946, reassembling on 14 August 1947 as a sovereign body. The constituent assembly was chaired by the jurist, politician, social reformer and an inspirer of Young Minds, Dr. B. R. Ambedhkar.
299 delegates drafted our constitution in eleven sessions. It was adopted on 26 Nov, 1949 and then on 24 January, 1950 the constitution was signed by 284 members of the constituent assembly at the central hall of parliament. This is the history behind our vast constitution.

INTERESTING FACTS
EMOJI
In 1999, the Japanese
designer Shigetaka Kurita created the first collection of cell phone emoji and he is considered as the “Father of Emoji”. Researchers have found that when an individual views an
emoji, the parts of the brain that become activated are the same as when seeing
human facial expressions. We might even alter our facial expressions to match the
emoji.
In November 2015, Oxford Dictionaries declares the “Face
with Tears of Joy” emoji to be its “Word of the Year”. In a ranking of the world’s most used emoji, the laughing with tears
emoji, the heart eyes emoji, and the kissy face emoji were top three as of July
2017.The plural of emoji is emoji, not emojis.
AURORA
The phenomenon is caused when charged particles emitted from the Sun
(during Solar Storm) penetrates the Earth’s magnetic shield and collide with
neutral atoms in the upper atmosphere. Each pole is considered as an Auroral Zone. At the south pole, it's called Aurora
Australis, while in the north the phenomenon is termed Aurora Borealis. Red, Green, Blue, Yellow and Pink are the colors visible in aurora.
The reason for different colors in aurora is that our atmosphere is made up of many
different compounds like Oxygen and Nitrogen. The southern-most state in Australia, Tasmania is an excellent
destination for viewing the spectacular light show of Aurora Australis.
HUMAN BRAIN
Each
and every time we learn something new our brain forms new connections and
neurons makes existing neural pathways stronger or weaker. So, the more you
learn along the way, the more your brain will change its shape. Our brain has a negativity bias and so it will remember negative
memories more than good ones.Being ignored causes the same chemical reaction in brain as like
physical injury.A team of US researchers have found that yawning cools the brain.

The winner of the last week aptitude corner is N. JESINTHA ROOPAVATHI, 3rd YEAR, EEE
ANSWERS FOR LAST WEEK QUESTIONS:
1) ANSWER: Option:(A) 6.25/over
Solution:
Required run rate= (282-(3.2x10))/40
=(250)/40
= 6.25/over
2)ANSWER: Option: (D) Rs.18.33
Solution:
S.I. on Rs.(110-10) for a certain time = Rs.10
S.I. on Rs.100 for double the time
= Rs.20
T.D. on Rs.120 = Rs.(120-100)= Rs.20
T.D. on Rs.110 = Rs.((20/120)X100)
= Rs.18.33
3)ANSWER:Option: (B) 5120 cubic metre
Solution:
Clearly, L = (48-16)m = 32m
B = (36-16)m = 20m
H = 8m
Hence, Volume of the box = L*B*H
= (32x20x8) cubic metre
= 5120 Cubic metre
4)ANSWER: Option: (B) 4
Solution:
Let the tenth digit of the two digit number be "x" and the unit digit be "y".
Then, (10x+y)-(10y+x) = 36
9(x-y) = 36
Hence, (x-y) = 4
5)ANSWER: Option: (B) 253
Solution:
Let the middle digit be "x".
Then, 2x = 10 (or) x = 5. So, the number is either 253 or 352.
Since the number increases on reversing the digits, the hundred’s digit is smaller than the unit's digit.
Hence, the required three digit number = 253.
