HISTORY

Provincial Autonomy (1937)

Provincial autonomy begins (1 April 1937) with Congress winning an absolute majority in many states. The All India Congress Committee renounced the proposition of non-acceptance of office. However, the Congress ministries did not accept office in the majority provinces, until they were assured by the Viceroy non-usage of his special powers in day-to-day administration. Muslim league fared badly in these elections, failing to secure a majority even in Muslim majority states but it still demanded that the Congress should admit its representatives in all Provincial ministries. The league refused to regard Muslims in congress ministries as representatives of the Muslim community.

ANSWER FOR LAST WEEK QUESTIONS

1)Answer: Option(C) 3

Solution:

Area of the park = (60×40) = 2400 m²

Area of the lawn = 2109 m²

Area of the crossroads = (2400-2109) = 291 m²

Let the width of the road be X metres. Then,

60X + 40X – X² = 291

X² - 100X + 291 = 0

(X-97) (X-3) = 0

Therefore, X = 3

2)Answer: Option(C) Tuesday

Solution:

100 years contain 5 odd days

So last day of 1st  century is Friday

200 years contain (5×2 = 10) = 10-7 = 3 odd days

So last day of 2nd.century is Wednesday

300 years contain (5×3 = 15) = 15-14 (14 is a multiple of 7) = 1 odd day

So last day of 3rd century is Monday

400 years contain 0 odd days

So last day of 4th century is Sunday

This cycle is repeated.

Therefore the last day of a century cannot be Tuesday or Thursday or Saturday.

3)Answer: Option(C) 18 years

Solution:

Total age of 10 students = 150 years

Total age of 15 students = 240 years

Total age of 5 new students = 240-150 = 90 years

Therefore average age of 5 new students = 90/5 = 18 years

4)Answer: Option(D) 20 km/hr

Solution:

Let the normal speed be X km/hr, then

(80/X)-[80/(X+4)] = 1

X² + 4X – 320 = 0

X(X+20)-16(X+20) = 0

(X-16) (X+20) = 0

So, X = 16 km/hr

Therefore the increased speed (X+4) = 20 km/hr

5)Answer: Option(B) 25 lit/min

Solution:

Given that the waste tap can empty the filled tank in 32 minutes.

Now the rate at which the waste tap can empty the tank = [8(40+60)]/32 = 100/4 = 25 lit/min.
