FRIENDSHIP DAY

Friendship Day celebrations take place on the first Sunday of August every year. The tradition of dedicating a day in honor of friends began in US in 1935. Gradually the festival gained popularity and today Friendship Day is celebrated in large number of countries including India.

The emotions and feelings related to the friendship is difficult to be deciphered. Recall the worst time of your life. Now try to remember that one person who stood by you in this hour of crisis. It could either be a parent, sibling or close friend. Chances are it was the latter. Your friend was there for you, comforting reassuring and supportive. That’s what friends are about, providing constant support, our comforting confidant and our worst critic. They are the family we choose!

Friends are people we love to spend time with. They give us company when we are lonely, support us unconditionally and accept us despite our shortcomings. They make celebrations fun, and they help us be ourselves.

Not just that, friends also help us grow at a spiritual level. Each soul is on a journey. Friends are guides who come into our lives, play their roles and move on. Don’t we all have friends who we were very close to at one point, but with whom we are no longer in touch with now? They drifted away from our life when their role as guide was over. What friends do for us cannot be described in words. It is important for us to have friends but many of us find it difficult to strike up a friendship.

So this friendship day lets spread friendship and make this earth a sweeter place.

5. The answer is b) Krishna's nephew
Gunjan's grandson Shankaran is represented by X and he will be K's nephew.

Answers for 6 – 10:

6. The answer is c) 50

We know that 125 = 5 ^ 3 = 5 x 5 x 5. The number of pieces along each axis, n= 5.

Keywords: Red painted on one of their faces. No. of small cubes that have red painted on one of their faces = 2 x No. of cubes on each face of the large cube (because, Red is painted on 2 faces of the large cube).

Therefore No. of small cubes that have red painted on one their faces = 2 x 25 = 50 ( n = 5 and Hence, no. of pieces on each face= 25).

7. The answer is b) 36

The no .of faces that are painted blue and green = 4. The total no. of pieces on that has paint on one face = 6( n – 2 )^2. But for 4 faces it is 4(n-2)^2.
Therefore, no. of small cubes that have only one face painted either blue or green = 4(5-2)^2 = 4 x 9 = 36.

8. The answer is a) 12

The no. of small cubes that have two faces painted red and blue = 4(n-2). (The no. of edges shared by the red and blue faces is 4 and the no. of pieces on each edge that have 2 faces painted is 2 less than no .of pieces along the edge).
Hence, no. of small cubes that have two faces painted red and blue = 4(5-2) = 12.

9. The answer is c) 63

The no. of small cubes that have zero faces painted = (n-2)^3 = 3^3 = 27.
The no. of small cubes that have two faces painted = 12(n-2) = 12 x 3 = 36. Therefore, no. of small cubes that have zero or two faces painted = 27 + 36 = 63.

10. The answer is d) 8

Only the corners cubes (=8) can have two faces painted pink and one face painted orange.
