TEACHERS' DAY SPECIAL

"You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth." - Khalil Gibran

In India, on 5th of September, some of the students and friends of our former President, Philosopher, statesman and Professor, Dr.S.Radhakrishnan approached him to celebrate his birthday. But the genial teacher refused and asked to observe this day as a national teacher’s day instead of his birthday. Such was the love and respect of a teacher for his profession. Becoming a teacher needs an intense conviction and paramount devotion. We cannot return anything to our teachers equal to their great work, but we can give them respect, and thanks.

This is a great day to acknowledge and cherish their great work. Come along with us throughout this blog to experience the vibe of Teachers’ Day.

7 Secrets Your College Professors Won't Tell You

1.A Little Gratitude Goes a Long Way

Expressing gratitude to your professors can go a long way. "In one of the classes I'm teaching this semester, I have a student who always thanks me right before leaving at the end of class. That means more than you might think," says one Professor.

2.They Know When You're Not Paying Attention

We all get distracted from time to time, but daydreaming during class doesn't cut it. Professors see hundreds of students a day and it quickly becomes obvious which ones aren't engaging with the material.

3.They Don't Enjoy Failing Students

Despite what you may think, it's unlikely that your professor loves giving you a failing grade.

4. Preparing lesson plans and lectures takes A LOT of work.

Most students don't realize the amount of work and hours that go into planning each lesson: researching, reading, planning, thinking of assignments, doing presentations, etc.

5.They get bored too.

If you are bored with your course, chances are the professor is as well. He may teach the same class every semester with few variations on the work.

6.Grading Takes a Lot Longer Than You Think

Grading papers may seem easy, but for many professors, it’s one of the more time-consuming parts of their job.

7.Summer Doesn't Mean Their Work is Done

If you think that teaching at a college level seems like a cushy job because of entire summers off, think again. “Work doesn’t end at the end of term,” says one Professor. Professors will use the time to conduct research, publish, or attend conferences.

LITTLE GRATITUDE FROM STUDENTS

Three Imaginary Professors to look up to (from Harry Potter Series)

1. Minerva McGonagall

The Deputy Headmistress, Head of Gryffindor, Transfiguration Professor. She is an imposing figure who can quickly spot trouble. Few students dare cross her. She was a fountain of knowledge in her subject and carried out her teachings with grace and a fair dose of strictness. But she is the kind who knows when it's time to break the rules. She may be strict but there is no denying that she cares more about her students. An iconic professor forever!

2. Albus Dumbledore

The Headmaster everyone wants to have! He is the heart and soul of the college. He always puts kindness first. He is cheeky, funny, caring, understanding with a moral to learn at the end. He does everything with style. He is the one who always stands for students. Though he had his own failures, he is humble and self-aware enough to recognize them himself.

3. Severus Snape

The Potions Master, Defense Against the Dark Arts Teacher, and Head of Slytherin. He is the one Professor every student hates. He is always hard on his students. He is highly respected among his colleagues. Students believed that he was partial, but it was not true. Though he constantly punished students, he was the one who protected them invisibly! He was highly skilled and more powerful. He taught us how to sacrifice, how to be fierce, how to be loyal and more minute moral values. "The bravest man", Harry had ever known.

FREQUENTLY HEARD DIALOGUES

  • Why are you laughing? Come here and tell us we’ll also laugh.
  • Why do you come to college when you don’t want to study?
  • The last batch was hundred times better than yours.
  • If you want to talk then you may get out from the class and talk.
  • When will you submit the assignments?
  • Why are you late?
  • Is this a fish market?
  • If you’re not interested, you may leave the class.
  • Are you here to waste your parent’s money?

RECENTLY IT BECAME....

  • Students unmute your audio/video and answer.
  • Is my voice audible?
  • Is the PPT visible?
  • Are you listening? Are you there?

These are the world famous dialogues we often hear. Actually, everyone of us would have heard. Recently with online classes the dialogues have changed. The virtual classes may not comfortable for both students and teachers. But our teachers are doing a great job. Hats off to them! For taking vivid efforts to enlighten our future.

Everyone we come across will teach a lesson in our life. But the real teachers are those who care for their students and will teach valuable lessons. As Samuthrakani in Sattai to Virus in Nanban every teacher wants their student to succeed in one or other way. Their approaches maybe different yet their ultimate goal is the success of their students. Be grateful to have so much teachers in your lives.

As they say - ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’, all our teachers have dedicated their time and energy to shape our college as a reputable one. Let's honor all our professors and lecturers, because we are all incomplete in this world without them.

A salute to all Professors and Lecturers of our college from ACCET NEWS team on behalf of students!
