Accet news team interviwed MR.THIRUMALAI NAMBI (founder of THIRAN) of 89-93 batch.His answers would be posted in the upcoming news sessions.

1. what was your childhood ambition?whether you reached it or yet to be..?!

If Childhood is defined as something less than 15 years then every child has different dreams as they see different things . For me sometimes it would be cricket player /Tennis Champion/Football Player / Inventor / Actor etc etc . Somewhere in between i think parents trained me to say Engineer and seems there were only 2 options Doctor & Engineer Which is then the familiar story in everyone's life . So childhood dreams remain as dreams only ! except for the Engineering part.

2. would you please tell about your days in and around our campus(real experience? (it is for our self-assessment!)

Actually it was nothing great or notable during my 89 to 93 stay and certainly i cannot be a role model  student :). 

To give an idea of my period , I would say if we remove Computers+wifi+cellphone from 2015 ACCET then it is = my days.  Except for those gadgets and communication development in the society nothing much has changed in ACCET .  So what we did ? When I ask this question myself i could not recollect what we did in our spare time much  execpt for the usual things of "vetti Pechu" + Cinema+Sleeping and doing nothing thereby losing ourselves in that process . 

Well I would say ACCET's biggest drawback is its absolute zero control in hindsight . 

I am from Chennai and my fellow hostelmates who were from Chennai or Villupuram area would visit home only 1 or 2 times a year when hostel mess closes . With rare inland letters from us and no phones I am just comparing today's anxious society with those days where parents had no idea what their son /daughter were doing until the children come home for holidays . However those from Non-Chennai area visited their hometown every week (in first year ) to at least a month in final years . Boys Hostels were named as ENH, ETH,SCH & Ezhil .

Girls were wearing Sarees to college (mandatory) and our lab coats were in Khaki . We had only 4 branches  (no CSE) . 

We had Zero Alumni interaction and this continued until Thiran came up in ACCET. We were affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University and We were proud of  our DOTE 1 College seat and looked "down" on 'any' private engineering college because those days only those who do not get any seat in Dote 1 (govt colleges) would go for Dote 2 or Private Engineering College !!..How things have changed !

We  had ACCULFES  (cultural festival) where we invite colleges to perform and provide them food and accommodation . This was conducted for 3 days and would be an enjoyable experience to see all college students and their extraordinary talents. There was an organising group for this ACCULFES and it was very prestigious to be in that group and so there were groupism and politics as expected whenever there are seats to be filled . During our year there was election and we had great real time experience of watching "election" behaviour from 18-20 year olds. I can say that 18-20 year almost matched any seasoned politician. Coincidentally 1993 (out batch) was the last ACCULFES event in ACCET .  I guess the subsequent juniors had a different mindset and  had better things to do rather than Culturals .As we were in a period where there was near zero recruitment generally  we had no idea of future plans neither there were any guidance from anyone . We did have campus and i remember 4 students getting placed in total . So there were no preparation for any Aptitude test or Group Discussion  etc . Having said that there were few  in every batch who would prepare of TOEFL and GRE for USA higher studies . In my year few (2-3 ) got good GATE score and did their M.E from IIT and Anna Uni . We used to call Resume as BioData and we rarely had to prepare one during our college time.

Campus talks

On February 3rd    GM of Airtel came to our college and discussed the   opportunities in the field of telecommunication with our final year students of EEE and ECE at Murugappa hall. He told that there is a plenty of opportunities for us in that field and we have to make use of it.

It is to be held in the second or third week of this month.The dates are not confirmed yet.

As mentioned earlier accet's asset  will  be the alumini forever.. in that adding a feather to the cap this placement classes has been arranged by the batch 87.

Sport

Most awaited event of accet !!!!  

Inter year sport's meet is on its way!! All the sports people of ACCET  are preparing to give their best and conquer the overall trophy!! Current 4th year's are the champion's would like to retain their trophy while others would like to write their name's in the history!!

2k15 has got its uniqueness  by the month of february...it's just a 7*4 rule..confused 7 daynames*4 days(ie sunday,monday,tuesday,wednesday,thursday,friday,saturday has equally 4 days this month).This marvellous miracle is said to happen  once in 823 years approximately!!!!

Modi and teleprompter

                 Mr.Narendra Modi(Prime minister of India), who used to deliver his speeches in Hindi (even during his visit to foreign countries he used Hindi and was helped by a translator) started to speak in English on last July during PSLV launching at ISRO by using  ‘Teleprompter’ .

                 It is nothing but a device with an electronic text which can be viewed by the orator from the reflection by thin glass. It is placed below the camera so that no one else can see it but the orator. The speech should be uploaded in it earlier. It looks like the orator is facing the camera but actually the truth is there is the speech.
