9. ANSWER: 10
Third letter find is ‘e’.
Once again considering each case of the second position being filled by m, n or p, we have the third position shall be different from the vowel in first position, i.e. vowel for the first position can be selected out of the vowels a, i, o, u only.
Hence, four different ways.
when the second possibility is filled by n, occupying the second position, does not create any restriction on the vowel is position 1.
Hence, the first position can be occupied by any of the five vowels,
Hence, in five different ways.
when the second position is filled by p, In this case, letter in the third position out the first position shall be the same.
Hence, the first position shall be filled by ‘e’.
i.e. only one way of filling.
Total number of possible strings = 4 + 5 + 1 = 10

10. ANSWER: 35
There are 5 vowels, a, e, i, o, u.
Hence the first letter can be any of the five vowels: therefore, five different methods.
The second letter can be any of them, n or p. But it has its own rule for the third letter. Hence, each case to be considered separately.
In the above case; the third letter is one of the remaining four vowels.
Hence, there are 5 × 4 = 20 ways of forming such a string.
If the second letter is n, the third is either e or u, i.e. two different ways.
total number of 5 × 2 = 10 ways.
When the second position is filled by p, the third letter is the same as the first letter. As the first letter the is already selected, the third can be filled only one way.
Hence, there are 5 × 1 = 5 ways.
Total number of Strings that can be formed = 20 + 10 + 5 = 35.
