The Non-cooperation movement was launched on 31st August 1920 by the Indian National Congress (INC) under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi. In September 1920, in Congress session at Calcutta, the party introduced the Non-cooperation programme. It signified a new chapter in the history of Indian freedom struggle. Mahatma Gandhi was the main force behind the movement. He issued a manifesto declaring a doctrine of the non-violent Non-cooperation movement. Gandhi, through this manifesto, wanted people to:

How is mass different from weight?
Mass: The mass of a body is the quantity of matter contained in it. It is an inherent and fundamental property of the body. It is independent of external factors like position and surroundings. It is same at the equator as well as at poles of the earth or even anywhere in the universe.
Weight: The weight of a body on the other hand is the force with which attracted by the Earth towards its center, and is equal to the product of is mass and the acceleration due to gravity. Thus, if 'm' is the mass of the body and 'g' the acceleration due to gravity its weight is given by W=mg. Since the value of 'g' changes from place to place, the weight of a given body differs from one place to another. It also varies from planet to planet. As we take a body to great heights from the surface of earth, 'g' decreases and hence its weight decreases with height. Thus, the mass of a body is constant at any place in universe and its unit is kg (kilogram).
Whereas the weight of the body changes at different places due to change in acceleration due to gravity ('g') and its unit is Newton or kilogram weight. 1 kg wt = 9.8 Newtons. Therefore, the 'g' varies at height, depth location hence the weight also varies. But the mass does not change. Thus, there are the differences between mass and weight.

READING MATTERS
"White Tiger"
The White Tiger is the debut novel by Indian author Aravind Adiga. It was first published in 2008. According to Adiga, the exigence for The White Tiger was to capture the unspoken voice of people from "the Darkness" – the impoverished areas of rural India, and he "wanted to do so without sentimentality or portraying them as mirthless humorless weaklings as they are usually." This epistolary of Reality will hit readers really hard. It just throws the hard reality of India into every reader's mind.

KINDLE YOUR BRAIN
1)A boat takes 90 minutes less to travel 36 miles downstream than to travel the same distance upstream. If the speed of the boat in still water is 10 miles/hr, find the speed of the stream.
A)2 miles/hr
B)2.5 miles/hr
C)3 miles/hr
D)4 miles/hr
2)A man rows to a place 48 km distant and comes back in 14 hours. He finds that he can row 4 km with the stream in the same time as 3 km against the stream. The rate of the stream is?
A)1 km/hr
B)1.5 km/hr
C)2 km/hr
D)2.5 km/hr
3)A man invested Rs.4455 in Rs.10 shares quoted at Rs.8.25. If the rate of dividend is 12% his annual income is
A)Rs.207.20
B)Rs.534
C)Rs.648
D)Rs.368.60

ANSWER FOR LAST WEEK QUESTIONS
1)ANSWER: Option(D) 22 years
Solution:
Let the son's present age be x years.
Then, the man's present age is (x+24) years.
So, (x+24) + 2 = 2(x+2)
x+26 = 2x+4
Therefore, x = 22 years.
2)ANSWER: Option(D) 22 hens
Solution:
Let x be the number of cows and y be the number of hens.
Given, x+y = 30 & 4x+2y = 76
Solving these two equations, we get x = 8 and y = 22.
Hence, there are 22 hens in the farm.
3)ANSWER: Option(B) 33:7
Solution:
The resulting mixture contains A and B in the ratio 3:1 (three-fourth of A and one-fourth of B)
Proportion of water = [3*(5/6)+1*(4/5)]/(3+1) = 33/40
Proportion of honey = [3*(1/6)+1*(1/5)]/(3+1) = 7/40
Therefore, ratio of water and honey = 33:7
4)ANSWER: Option(B) 15.73 litres
Solution:
Given, a/b = 3/5 and b/c = 8/5
Also, a+b+c = 35
So, (3b/5)+b+(5b/8) = 35
24b+40b+25b = 1400
b = 1400/89
Hence, b = 15.73
5)ANSWER: Option(A) 7:00 am
Solution:
Upstream speed = b-s = 6 kmph
Downstream speed = b+s = 10 kmph
Time taken to travel upstream = 30/6 = 5 hours
Time taken to travel downstream = 30/10 = 3 hours
Time in the island = 2 hours
Total time = 5+3+2 = 10 hours
Therefore, the boat should have started at 7’o clock in the morning.
