ANSWER FOR LAST WEEK QUESTIONS

1)Answer: Option(C) 24%

Solution:

Initially the mixture contains 30% alcohol = (30/100)×20 = 6 litres of alcohol

And 70% of water = (70/100)×20 = 14 litres of water.

After adding 5 litres of water, the mixture contains (14+5) = 19 litres of water and 6 litres of alcohol.

Therefore, percentage of alcohol = (6/25)×100 = 24%

2)Answer: Option(C)876

Solution:

We will first calculate the surface area of the cube and then we will calculate the quantity of the paint required and its total cost.

Surface area = 6a² = 6×8² = 384 sq.ft

16 sq.ft is covered by 1 kg of paint. 384 sq.ft will be covered by (384/16) = 24 kg of paint.

The cost of the paint is Rs.36.50 per kg.

So the total cost of painting = 36.50×24 = Rs.876

3)Answer: Option(A) 32%

Solution:

Let the original length be X and the original breadth be Y.

So the original area = XY

So, decrease in area = X*Y – {(80X/100)*(85Y/100)}

= XY – {(17/25)XY}

= (8/25)XY

Percentage decrease in area = (decrease in area/original area)*100

= (8/25)XY*(1/XY)*100

= 32%

4)Answer: Option(B) 384

Solution:

Area of one tile = 9”×9” = 82 inches

Area of one tile in feet = (9/12)*(9/12) = 9/16 ft²

Area of the floor = L×B = 12×18 = 216 ft²

Number of tiles required to cover the floor = (Area of the floor/Area of one tile) = {216/(9/16)}

= 384 tiles

5)Answer: Option(B) 27 km/hr

Solution:

Circumference of a circle = 2πr = 4(2/7) = 30/7 m

Distance covered in 7 revolution = 7×(30/7) = 30 m

Speed of train (km/hr) = {(30/4)×60×60×(1/1000)}km/hr

= (30/4)*(18/5) = 27 km/hr.
