Government of India Act-1935:

The Government of India Act was passed by the British Parliament in August 1935. It was divided into two separate acts namely, the Government of India Act 1935 and the Government of Burma Act 1935. The most important aspect of the Act was the grant of a large measure of autonomy to the provinces of British India and the provision for the establishment of a “Federation of India”. This Act divided the power between the centre and the Provinces. There were three lists which gave the subjects under each government. They were Federal list, Provincial list and the Concurrent list.

Article 45 of the Indian Constitution:

Article 45 of Indian Constitution required the State to make provision within ten years for free and compulsory education for all children until they complete the age of 14 years. The object was to abolish illiteracy from the country.

Article 45– Provision for free and compulsory education for children The State shall endeavour to provide, within a period of ten years from the commencement of this Constitution, for free and compulsory education for all children until they complete the age of fourteen years.

INTERESTING FACTS

Why does a refrigerator produce sounds periodically?

The sound from a fridge is due to the frequent switching on and switching off of the compressor.

The compressor is controlled by a thermostat, a device which is generally used to measure temperature. When the inner side of the fridge reaches zero degrees Celsius, there is no need to cool it further. So, the thermostat sends a signal and cuts the power to the compressor to stop its cooling function. This is purely an electricity saving mechanism. But once the fridge is left as such, it starts to lose its chillness as we open the door and also through leakages in the thermal insulation.

As a result, the temperature slowly begins to build up. When it reaches a critical temperature, the thermostat sends a signal to restore the circuit and switch on the compressor. The compressor, housing a mechanical device inside, generates the sound when it is on.

Ever wondered what are these for?

We all would have seen this in our college entrance. These bars are called cattle grids or cattle guards, and are meant to prevent livestock and other animals from entering the premises. The space between the rounded bars is narrow enough for people and vehicles to pass, but wide enough to act as a hurdle when cows, goats and dogs try to walk on them, as their narrow legs would be caught between the gaps.

ANSWER FOR LAST WEEK QUESTIONS

1)Answer: Option(C) 32000

Solution:

Total distance travelled by the car = 40000 km

So total distance travelled by 4 tyres = 4×40000 = 160000 kms as all tyres(4+1) are equally used

Therefore average distance travelled by each tyre = 160000/5 = 32000 kms

2)Answer: Option(D) 1092

Solution:

We have to choose 1 wicket keeper and 4 bowlers or 1 wicket keeper and 5 bowlers.

Number of ways of selecting 1 wicket keeper, 4 bowlers and 6 other players is

2C1*5C4*9C6 = 840

Number of ways of selecting 1 wicket keeper, 5 bowlers and 5 other players is

2C1*5C5*9C5 = 252

Total number of ways of selecting the team = 840+252 = 1092

3)Answer: Option(D) 552 km

Solution:

Total distance travelled in 12 hours = (35+37+39+.... upto 12 terms)

This is an A.P with first term a = 35, number of terms n = 12 and d = 2

Required distance = 12/2[2×35+(12-1)×2]

= 6(70+23)

= 552 kms

4)Answer: Option(D) 100 m

Solution:

Relative speed of the thief and policeman = (11-10) km/hr = 1 km/hr

Distance covered in 6 minutes = 100 m

So distance between them after 6 minutes = 200-100 = 100 m

5)Answer: Option(A) 7:3

Solution:

Let the age of son 10 years ago = X years

Then age of John  = 3X

According to the question

After 10 years

2×(X+20) = 3X+20

2X+40 = 3X+20

So, X = 20

The present age of son and John is X+10 and 3X+10 respectively.

Son's age = 20+10 = 30 years

John's age = (3×20)+10 = 70 years

Ratio of their present ages = 70:30 = 7:3
