Reading Matters:

Here, There and Everywhere

"Here, There and Everywhere ".... An inspiring and a touching book written by Sudha Murty, a prolific writer, philanthropist, social worker, engineering teacher, chairperson of Infosys and a soul of simplicity.

Sometimes we fall in love with the author or the book. This is one such book!

This book is a repository of multiple short stories which are the real life incidents in Sudha Murty's life. We can find values and morals in every short story which were not explicitly quoted as moral. But we can feel and connect to it.

 As Sudha Murty admits 'It is not for the English elite', the book is simple yet impactful.

 A gripping one and we can't put it down!

ANSWER FOR LAST WEEK QUESTIONS

1)Answer: Option(A) 2 litres

Solution:

Quantity of fruit juice in the mixture = 70-[70×(10/100)] = 63 litres.

After adding water, the fruit juice would form 87.5% of the mixture.

Hence, if quantity of mixture after adding × litres of water = 63

[(87.5)/100]*X = 63

X = 72

Hence 72-70 = 2 litres of water must be added.

2)Answer: Option(C) 118.08 litres

Solution:

The amount of petrol left after 4 operations = 200 × [1-(40/200)]⁴

= 200 × (4/5)⁴ = 200 × (256/625)

= 81.92 litres

Hence the amount of kerosene = 200-81.92 = 118.08 litres

3)Answer: Option(A) 1.25 kg

Solution:

Let the initial amount of honey in the jar be K, then

512 = K[1-(1/5)]⁴

512 = K(4/5)⁴

K = (512×625)/256

K = 1250 g (or) 1.25 kg

Hence initially the honey in the jar = 1.25 kg.

4)Answer: Option(A) 76

Solution:

Average = total runs/number of innings = 32

So, total runs = Average × number of innings = 32×10 = 320

Now increase in average = 4 runs. So, new average = 32+4 = 36 runs

Total runs = new average × new number of innings = 36×11 = 396

Therefore runs made in the 11th inning = 396-320 = 76 runs.

5)Answer: Option(B) 2700

Solution:

Total number of votes = 7500

Given that 20% of votes were invalid.

Valid votes = 80%

Total valid votes = 7500×(80/100)

1st candidate got 55% of the total valid votes. Hence the 2nd candidate should have got 45% of the total valid votes.

Valid votes that the 2nd candidate got = total valid votes × (45/100)

= 7500×(80/100)×(45/100) = 2700 votes.
