Wavell
Plan and Shimla Conference -1945:
The
Wavell plan was presented at the Shimla Conference in 1945. It was named after
Viceroy of India, Lord Wavell. This plan proposed that the Viceroy’s executive
Council was to have all Indian members except the Viceroy and the Commander in
chief. All portfolios except defence would be held by Indian Members. Both the
plan and conference failed as the Muslim league and Indian National Congress
not coming to an agreement. Meanwhile a general election had been held in UK
which had brought the labour Party to power. This government was intent in
giving independence to India and sent the Cabinet Mission to India.
PERIYAR
Erode Venkatappa Ramasamy (17 September 1879 – 24 December 1973), commonly known as Periyar, also referred to as Thanthai Periyar, was an Indian social activist, and politician who started the Self-Respect Movement and Dravidar Kazhagam. He is known as the ‘Father of Dravidian Movement’. He has done exemplary works against Brahminical dominance, caste prevalence and women oppression in Tamilnadu.
E.V.
Ramasamy joined the Indian National Congress in 1919, but resigned in 1925 when
he felt that the party was only serving the interests of Brahmins. He
questioned the subjugation of non-Brahmin Dravidians as Brahmins enjoyed gifts
and donations from non-Brahmins but opposed and discriminated non-Brahmins in
cultural and religious matters. In 1924, E.V. Ramasamy participated in a
non-violent agitation (satyagraha) in Vaikom, Kerala.
From
1929 to 1932 Ramasamy made a tour of British Malaya, Europe, and Russia which
influenced him.[how?] In 1939, E.V. Ramasamy became the head of the Justice
Party, and in 1944, he changed its name to Dravidar Kazhagam. The party later
split with one group led by C. N. Annadurai forming the Dravida Munnetra
Kazhagam (DMK) in 1949. While continuing the Self-Respect Movement, he
advocated for an independent Dravida Nadu (land of the Dravidians).
E.V.
Ramasamy promoted the principles of rationalism, self-respect, women’s rights
and eradication of caste. He opposed the exploitation and marginalisation of
the non-Brahmin Dravidian people of South India and the imposition of what he
considered Indo-Aryan India.

Train to Pakistan
Train to Pakistan is the story of this isolated village that is plunged into the abyss of religious hate. It is also the story of a Sikh boy and a Muslim girl whose love endured and transcends the ravages of war. It is a place, Khushwant Singh goes on to tell us at the beginning of this classic novel, where Sikhs and Muslims have lived together in peace for hundreds of years. Then one day, at the end of the summer, the “ghost train” arrives, a silent, incredible funeral train loaded with the bodies of thousands of refugees, bringing the village its first taste of the horrors of the civil war. 1)Answer:
Option(C) 33
Solution:
Assume
that the number of boys = b and number of girls = g
Number
of boys + number of girls = 41
b
+ g = 41.....(1)
Given
that each boy got Rs.12 and each girl got Rs.8. Then the total amount is Rs.460
12b
+ 8g = 460.....(2)
By
solving equations (1) and (2), we get b = 33.
2)Answer:
Option(A) 12 kmph
Solution:
Let
the distance be X km.
Travelling
at 10 kmph, Arun will reach point A at 2 p.m.
Travelling
at 12 kmph, Arun will reach point A by 12 noon.
Therefore,
time taken when travelling at 10 kmph – time taken when travelling at 15 kmph =
2 hours
(X/10)
– (X/15) = 2
3X
– 2X = 2×30
X
= 60
Time
needed if travelled at 10 kmph = 60/10 = 6 hours.
Therefore,
to reach at 1 p.m. his travelling time must be (6-1) = 5 hours.
Hence,
required speed = 60/5 = 12 kmph
3)Answer:
Option(B) 120 kmph
Solution:
Speed
of car : Speed of train = 100 : 150 = 2 : 3
Time
needed for car : Time needed for train = 3 : 2
i.e..,
the train only takes the 2/3 of the time taken by the car.
Sinceboth
the car and train start and reach at the same time.
1/3
of the time needed by the car is 12.5 minutes.
Time
needed by the car = 3 × 12.5
Therefore
speed of the car = 75/[(3×12.5)/60] = 120 kmph.
4)Answer:
Option(C) 155°
Solution:
We
know that the angle traced by the hour hand in 12 hours = 360°
Time
duration from noon to 10 minutes past 5 = 5 hours 10 minutes = 5(10/60) hours =
31/6 hours
Hence
the angle traced by the hour hand from noon to 10 minutes past 5
=
(31/6) × (360/12) = (31/6) × 30
=
31 × 5 = 155°
5)Answer:
Option(B) 14 hours
Solution:
A,B,C
together can fill a tank in 6 hours.
Part
filled by pipes A,B,C together in 1 hour = 1/6
All
these pipes are open for only 2 hours and then pipe C is closed.
Part
filled by pipes A,B,C in these 2 hours = 2/6 = 1/3
Remaining
part = 1-(1/3) = 2/3
This
remaining part of 2/3 is filled by pipes A and B in 7 hours.
Therefore
part filled by pipes A and B in 1 hour = (2/3)/7 = 2/21
Part
filled by pipe C in 1 hour = (1/6) – (2/21) = 1/14
i.e..,
C alone can fill the tank in 14 hours.
